From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This means them few options but to head to the northern region in search of the traitor.
What’s Next?
From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
